International Crane Stakeholders Assembly Reviews Important Issues

April 16, 2014 SC&RA and AEM co-hosted the Annual Meeting of the International Crane Stakeholders Assembly (ICSA) on March 7 in Las Vegas, Nev. Other participating ICSA organizations were the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA), the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA), the European Association of Abnormal Road Transport and Mobile Cranes (ESTA), and the Federation of European Manufacturers (FEM). Six manufacturers participated—Liebherr, Link-Belt, Manitowoc, Terex, Tadano, and Zoomlion. Among the 28 attendees were six SC&RA members.

“This meeting presented a unique opportunity to bring together international crane and rigging companies with manufacturers to discuss areas of mutual interest and concern,” said SC&RA Vice President Beth O’Quinn.

During the meeting, users and manufacturers split up into two sets of morning sessions then reconvened in the afternoon to review key items of importance to the crane industry worldwide, including:

  • Stability limits
  • The B30.5 standard’s elimination of the absolute requirement for a bold-line on crane stability charts
  • A guidance document created by ICSA for mobile cranes, addressing the issue of leaving mobile cranes unattended in [partially] erected mode
  • Ground pressure from wind acting on loads
  • Fall restraint/fall arrest anchors on crane structures
  • Mobile and Tower crane life expectancy
  • Standardization of decals and pictorials by crane manufacturers

The next ICSA Annual Meeting will be conducted in conjunction with CICA’s Annual Conference, September 3‐6, 2015, in Perth, Australia.
