Special Interest Groups Support CRC/ICHC in Houston
CRC/ICHC announces that several contractor and higher learning and certification organizations have agreed to promote the Crane & Rigging Conference and Industrial Crane & Hoist Conference (CRC/ICHC) to their members. To be held in Houston, Texas, Dec. 3-4, the conference is for safety and risk managers, crane and rigging supervisors, lift directors, facilities managers and others working in crane and rigging operations.
Among the groups who will benefit from reduced registration rates for their members are the Greater Houston Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (www.abchouston.org), Steel Erectors Association of America, and the Florida Crane Owners Council (www.flcoc.com). Registration discounts are also available to individuals holding certifications from the Institute for Safety and Health Management and students of Texas A&M College of Engineering (www.engineering.tamu.edu). SEAA represents small and large businesses providing steel erection, fabrication, and related activities. In 2014, SEAA began establishing a network of regional training and testing centers for Ironworkers. The goal of the program is to make ironworker training more accessible in order to increase the number of qualified ironworkers in the labor pool.
Held consecutively for the last five years at locations in the Midwest and Gulf Coast, CRC/ICHC features more than a dozen educational sessions addressing the newest standards and regulations, industry trends, and risk management practices. Sessions with training tips, practical on-the-job advice, and best business practices are designed to help crane and rigging professionals reduce risk.
“There’s a real need for safety managers working in construction to have a good understanding of crane operations,” said Larry Curtis, Executive Director for Institute for Safety & Health Management. ISHM (www.ishm.org) offers certifications for Safety and Health Managers and others working in HSE positions. Its programs focus on the entire safety management process, providing credentials that demonstrate a broad range of business and financial principles and an understanding of hazard analyses, accident investigations, safety audits, workers’ compensation, product safety, environmental laws, quality, and labor relations.
As an added value to CRC/ICHC attendees, North American Crane Bureau will present a Pre-Conference Workshop for crane and rigging workers at on becoming qualified as a Crane Assembly/Disassembly Director. Among the topics covered in the full-day workshop, to be held Dec. 2, are crew communication, safe work procedures, determining load weights, rigging requirements, and component election. The Workshop comes with accompanying Continuing Education Credits and is conveniently located at the conference hotel at the Hilton NASA Clear Lake.
Attendees who register for both CRC/ICHC and the Pre-Conference A/D Director Workshop receive a total discount of $225 off both registrations. Early bird rates end August 1, 2014.
