Tipover Torrance, Calif.

June 2016 – A 300-ton lattice-boom crane tipped over at a gas refinery, slightly injuring three workers, while making a lift. The rig was lifting equipment for a gasoline-producing catalytic cracking unit when its boom fell. The impact caused a flaring to burn off hazardous chemicals generated by the incident, according to fire officials at the scene. The flammable gas was suppressed by water monitors, and the injured did not require hospitalization. The refinery, being readied for sale, restarted production in May, about 15 months after a fire and explosion early last year. - www.presstelegram.com and losangeles.cbslocal.com
