Crane Hot Line Names Top Trainers of 2017

Crane Hot Line magazine has announced the winners of its Top Trainer competition for 2017.

Joe Bob Williams

Joe Bob Williams of Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) took top honors in the Professional category, which covers trainers from companies whose principal activity is training,

Ian Chase

Ian Chase of Morrow Equipment won in the Corporate category, which covers trainers who are employed by a company who principal business is not training, for example manufacturers, contractors, equipment rental companies, or equipment dealers.

Honorable mentions went to: Don Childers (Nationwide) and Jesus/Jesse Garcia (CICB) in the Professional category; and Al Abel (Mazzella Companies) and Don Horn (Link-Belt) in the Corporate category.

Now in its 11th year, the Top Trainer competition is held annually by Crane Hot Line magazine and is endorsed by the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP).

Top Trainer entrants are nominated by peers, co-workers, or students, and are evaluated on the use of innovative hands-on instruction; encouraging peer or corporate accountability; training success; and overall impact on students, the industry, or the environment.

Both Williams and Chase will each receive an engraved trophy along with a scholarship to an educational seminar, and a trip to the ACRP’s 2018 annual general assembly meeting in Houston, Texas, May 15-18.

Sponsors of the 2017 Top Trainer program included: Lifting Gear Hire (platinum); Rigging Institute and Slingmax (Gold); Altec Sentry, CICB, Mazzella Companies, Morrow, and Terex (silver); and American International Crane Bureau (bronze).

New Timing for 2018

In 2018, the Top Tra iner compet i t ion is being moved much ea rlier in the year for the first time.

In the past, nominations were due in late summer and the winners were an nounced in the November edition of Crane Hot Line. The winners then had to wait until May to receive their honors and trophies during the genera l assembly of the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals (ACRP).

Starting in 2018,  the nomination deadline is being moved to March 31 so that the two winners have a shorter wait between being name Top Trainers and receiving their honors, trophies, and scholarships.

Now is the time to begin the process of nominating a trainer who deserves recognition as a possible Top Trainer for 2018.
