BKT's Poddar Named to Tire Industry Hall of Fame

October 31, 2018 - Arvind Poddar, chairman and managing director of tire maker BKT (Balkrishna Industries Ltd.) has been inducted into the Tire Industry Association (TIA) Hall of Fame. Induction into the hall of fame is TIA’s highest honor and one of the industry’s most prestigious accolades.

Poddar’s induction came October 29 at the Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ceremony took place one day before the opening of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, a premier show for the automotive specialty industry being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from October 30 – November 2, 2018.

BKT is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of off-highway tires. The company is headquartered in Mumbai, India, with the headquarters of its U.S. operations in Fairlawn, Ohio.

The Tire Industry Association was founded in 1920 in the United States. Having started as a national organization, TIA is today an international non-profit organization representing all segments of the tire industry globally. The association is committed to enhancing the image of the tire industry, and to promoting safety, training, education, conventions, advocacy, certifications, and industry publications.

The TIA Hall of Fame was founded in 1985. It aims to honor and preserve the names of outstanding personalities whose accomplishments have brought fame to the tire, rubber, and transportation industries. The award is conferred yearly. Recipients may be manufacturers, inventors, suppliers, dealers, or retreaders.

Poddar said he considers the award “a great honor that fills me with pride from both a personal and professional point of view.”
