Terex Utilities Offers Tip for Changing Direction of Tandem-Vane-Pump Flow

December 19, 2018 - Terex Utilities, Watertown, South Dakota, recently published Tech Tip #71, Changing Direction of Flow on a Tandem Vane Pump. The tip applies to some Terex digger derricks and aerial devices. It can be downloaded from the Technical Support tab at www.terex.com/utilities.  

“Tech Tips are intended to answer frequently asked questions or common challenges customers face as a supplement to service manuals,” said Jason Julius, of Terex Utilities training and tech support. In this case, when replacing a pump, if it is installed in reverse it could aerate the oil and potentially damage the pump and other components. 

The direction of rotation depends on the transmission and PTO that the truck is equipped with. Tech Tip #71 helps customers identify the pump’s direction of rotation so it can be installed correctly. The Tech Tip also gives step-by-step instructions and visuals about how to remove the tandem vane pump, reverse the direction flow, and reassemble the pump.
