Raimondi Showcases New Winch Design

February 25, 2019 – Raimondi Cranes, Legnano, Milan, Italy, has delivered three MRT189 topless tower cranes equipped with the company’s new 45kW (60.4 hp) two-fall winch to Raimondi agent Irish Crane & Lifting (Irish Cranes). One has been sold to KPH Construction Ltd., and has been erected on the Cherrywood jobsite in Dublin.

Although the 45kW (60.4 hp) winches were delivered to Ireland on MRT189 topless tower cranes, they are available worldwide, including in North America. And they are available on a number of Raimondi cranes.

“The new 45kW winches will be incorporated into all new Raimondi crane products up to 12 tonnes (13.2 U.S. tons) going forward, and certainly are available globally,” said Eng. Domenico Ciano, chief operations officer, Raimondi Cranes.   

“We’ve already had a tremendous response from our clients. We were pleased to be able to present these advancements to the market based on client feedback, Ciano added. “In addition to Ireland, the MRT189 topless tower crane with the new 45kW winch is also now in France and already at work onsite.”  

The MRT189 owned by KPH and now at work in Dublin, has a jib length of 213’3”, under-hook height of 137’9”, and Raimondi’s Deluxe R16 crane cabin.  

The Raimondi MRT189 owned by KPH is equipped with the new 45kW (60.4 hp) two-fall winch. It boasts improved ease of use thanks to the single hook block.  

“With this advancement in engineering design, it is no longer necessary to switch from the two-fall configuration to the four-fall configuration to activate the crane’s best performance,” said Raimondi COO Ciano.  

“The 45kW (60.4 hp), 10-tonne (11-U.S.-ton), two-fall winch, is a completely new Raimondi design based on client feedback and needs. A new electric motor was developed specifically for this application, as well as a completely new Lebus-type drum, flanges, and frame.”  

Ciano explained that the gearbox was designed for durability and life, taking into consideration heavy crane use. The winch may also be equipped with a secondary brake system.  

The crane performs optimally with the maximum load of 10,000 kg at 24m per minute (22,046 lbs. at 78’8” per minute) or a light load of 1,000 kg at 110m per minute (2,205 lbs. at 361’ per minute). 

“Reaching higher heights with the new [two-fall] winch is now possible due to the rope capacity: the standard 190m (623’4”) with an increase of 15% compared to the four-fall winch, or the optional 242m (794’) with an increase of 45% compared to the four-fall winch,” said Ciano.  

“In addition, there is also an increase of rope life due to the streamlined rope reeving path with less bending. Our clients can expect that our two-rope solution will be implemented for all Raimondi cranes up to 12 tonne maximum load capacity,” Ciano concluded.
