Liebherr Delivers 16 Crawler Cranes to Bigge

Liebherr-family shareholders Patricia Rüf and Sophie Albrecht with Bigge’s owner Weston Settlemier, Bigge employees and employees of Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH at the handing over of the LR 1800 crawler crane.

April 10, 2019 - At Bauma 2019, Liebherr has handed over 16 crawler cranes to its long-standing customer, Bigge Crane and Rigging: 15 LR 1300s and one LR 1800. Bigge’s fleet already includes over 100 crawler and mobile cranes from Liebherr.

At Bauma, Bigge also ordered two LR 11000s. Bigge owner Weston Settlemier said: "The new Liebherr cranes (LR 1300, LR 1800, and LR 11000) are the perfect addition to our perfect crane fleet.”

These are not the first Liebherr LR 1300 cranes that Bigge owns. More than 10 years ago, the company started to use two of the Liebherr crawler cranes for projects needing a lifting capacity of up to 300 tonnes (330.6 U.S. tons). Today, Bigge operates over 60 LR 1300s.

The 15 new models are equipped with a range of newly developed assist systems. They’re easier to operate, but also offer enhanced safety. For example, the "Boom Up-and-Down-Aid" system shows when the crane is approaching the tipping border when lowering or raising the boom or jib. It automatically stops before the crane operator unintentionally maneuvers to an unsafe position.

The LR 1800 ballast weighs up to 660 tonnes (727.5 U.S. tons), is 11 meters (36’) wide and lets the crane lift  loads up to 800 tonnes (881.8 U.S. tons). The transport-optimized design shortens transportation and set-up between jobs.

During the handover at Bauma, Bigge announced another order from Liebherr: two Liebherr LR 11000 crawler cranes. The cranes are even bigger than the LR 1800 and lift loads up to 1,000 tonnes (1,102 U.S. tons).
