Bauma Moves to October 2022
April 23, 2021 – Bauma 2022 has been rescheduled for Oct. 24-30, 2022.
The huge construction-equipment trade show that routinely attracts more than half a million visitiors was originally planned for April 4-10, 2022.
As a result of the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show’s organizer, Messe München, has rescheduled it for the fall of 2022 in order to provide exhibitors and visitors a more solid foundation on with to plan and prepare for the show.
Show managers say they made the decision after many discussions with top industry representatives and the show organizer’s advisory board.
Despite the pandemic, the booking level was very high, said Messe München in a news release.
However, said the organizers, numerous discussions with customers revealed a growing recognition that the April date involved too many uncertainties in view of the global pandemic. The prevailing opinion was that it is currently difficult to assess whether the worldwide travel so crucial for the show’s success would be largely unhindered by next spring.
Global exhibitors reportedly had advocated strongly for postponement. They rely on customers to come to Bauma from all over the world, and they make large investments in stand construction, logistics, and hotel bookings.
The decision to postpone Bauma gives exhibitors and visitors clarity and a secure planning basis, emphasized Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of Messe München: “The decision to postpone Bauma was not an easy one for us, of course. But we had to make it now, before the exhibitors start planning their participation in the trade show and make corresponding investments. Unfortunately, despite the vaccination campaign that has been launched around the world, it is not yet possible to predict when the pandemic will be largely under control and unlimited worldwide travel will be possible again.”
Dittrich said that the uncertainty not only makes planning difficult for exhibitors and visitors, it also would make it difficult for Messe München to fulfill its central promise that Bauma would represent the entire spectrum of the industry and generate its usual international reach.
“After all, Bauma’s last edition welcomed participants from over 200 countries around the world. Hence, the decision is consistent and logical,” said Dittrich.
Joachim Schmid, managing director of the Construction Equipment and Plant Engineering Association in the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), supports the decision. “The decision is tough, but it gives all parties the planning basis they need. The industry will now do everything it can for a strong Bauma in October 2022,” he said.

Even with the postponement, technical and organizational planning for Bauma 2022 continues.
The core of Bauma 2022 will be the face-to-face event, expanded by digital offerings.
“This allows customers from all over the world to participate in Bauma, even if they can't or don't want to travel to Munich,” said Dittrich.
The show’s most important topics have already been defined. They reflect the megatrends of digitalization and sustainability:
- The road to zero emissions
- The digital construction site
- The onstruction methods and materials of tomorrow
- The road to autonomous machines
- Mining—sustainable, efficient, reliable
These topics will not only play a central role in the exhibitors’ presentations; they will also be illustrated in special areas such as the VR Experience and will be a central theme in the supporting program.
The categories of the Bauma Innovation Award were also be adjusted accordingly. For the first time, applicants can participate in the categories of digitalization and climate protection.
