Comansa’s New Flat-Top Tower Crane Lifts up to 55 U.S. Tons

September 5, 2018- Comansa’s new 21LC1050 flat-top tower crane comes in versions that can lift 27.5, 41.3, or 55 U.S. tons, and can be equipped with jib lengths from 98’3” to 262’5”. An optional jib configuration allows a special reach of 278’10”.

The 21LC1050’s capacity, reach, and easy operation, make it ideal for large industrial or mining projects, as well as for constructing buildings that have heavy prefabricated or steel structures.

The 21LC1050’s slewing system is similar to that used on Comansa’s 21LC750 and 21LC660. The jib and counterjib mount directly onto the slewing turntable for faster and safer assembly. Also, the 21LC1050 uses many of the same jib and counterjib sections as those two models, optimizing the investment of customers who own them.

The 21LC1050’s five counterjib modules can be assembled in six configurations to meet a project’s needs. Keeping the counterjib as short as possible minimizes the chance of interference with buildings or other cranes. The 262’5” maximum lifting jib needs a counterjib radius of 101’8”; a 164’ jib needs just an 88’8” counterjib radius; and a 98’5” jib needs just a 68’11” counterjib radius. Using optional steel counterweights allows any of the counterjib configurations to be shortened by 3’3”.

The 21LC1050 is erected on a new 8.2’-wide tower section that’s compatible with Comansa’s other tower sections of the same width. The new section, called D36B, will become standard for other Comansa models with similar sections, such as the 21LC750 or the LCL700 luffer.

In its version with fixing angles, maximum freestanding tower height is 240’6”, and the height can exceed 321’6” when the new section is combined with wider sections of  Comansa tower.

The hoist line is only 20 mm in diameter, so the hoists can spool plenty of rope. The standard 85-hp (65 kW) hoist can spool 2,363’ of wire rope at speeds to 544.6 fpm on the crane’s 27.5- and 41.3-ton versions. It can also reach speeds of 272.3 fpm on the 55-ton version of the crane.

Optional 147.5 hp (110 kW) and 177 hp (132 kW) hoists can reach line speeds of 984 fpm, and can be equipped with Lebus drums to hold up to 5,151’ of rope.

Comansa’s single-double trolley system with automatic reeving change optimizes capacity. Using just the front trolley improves tip-loading capacity and delivers higher hoist speed. Using the double (front and rear) trolley allows picking the heaviest loads. For projects where all the loads are heavy and the crane doesn’t need to change reeving, the 55-ton version can be equipped with an optional simple trolley.

The 21LC1050 comes standard with PowerLift, which improves lifting capacity by 10%, without exceeding the crane’s nominal capacity. For example, if the jib-end load of the 27.5-ton model is 23,810 lbs., the maximum load increases to 26,191 lbs. when the operator activates PowerLift.

Also new is the J3-20 hydraulic climbing cage, which is also compatible with other Comansa cranes. The cage can push 220 U.S. tons, more than than any other jacking cage for 8.2’-wide mast sections from the manufacturer. In addition, the new cage speeds up the climbing process and reduces assembly time.

Comansa’s new comfortable CUBE cab in its XL version comes standard. Its large glass front, sides, and floor give the operator excellent visibility.
