Fil Filipov has Passed

Sept. 7, 2022 - Fil Filipov, current owner of crane and excavator maker ATLAS GmbH and former president of Terex Cranes, died on Aug. 26, 2022, at age 75 after a brief illness.

He leaves behind his wife Véronique, to whom he was married for 35 years, as well as his son Steve and daughter Nadia.

Filipov was born in 1946 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. At 17, he fled communist Bulgaria and emigrated to the United States, after imprisonment and internment in a Greek refugee camp.

In the U.S., he became a highly successful manager, including becoming president of Terex Cranes.

In 2004 he became a successful entrepreneur, restructuring some 50 enterprises.

In 2010, he bought Atlas GmbH, when the company was in a crisis, and led the manufacturer back to success and profitability.

Many of his ideas for new projects will remain unfulfilled due to his unexpected death.

Per Filipov’s wishes, his funeral took place with only his immediate family.

Atlas GmbH and its subsidiaries are running without interruption under the direction of Brahim Stitou, who remains CEO.
