Engineer Michael T. Walsh to Lead ConExpo Session About Effects of LIfted Loads

Mar. 6, 2023 – Michael T. Walsh, president of Dearborn Companies, Bridgeview, Illinois, will present an educational session about the effect of lifted loads on structures at the ConExpo trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dearborn Engineers is an engineering services company with 69 years of experience. It supports customers with a full range of engineering offerings that range from ground-condition surveys and stabilization design, to engineered lift planning, rigging and shoring design, 3D documentation using laser scanning and drone collection, and crane specification and siting.

On Wednesday, Mar. 15, from 9:30-10:15 a.m., in West Hall, Room 203-205, Walsh will present “Lifting Load Effects on Elevated Structures” as part of ConExpo’s educational program.

The educational session will cover the effects that lifting and moving of loads has on elevated structures, decks, bridges, and underground facilities like utilities, vaults, and foundations.

It will look at host structure stability and integrity during crane and gantry lifts, as well as during horizontal movement by SPMTs, slide jacking, and other devices.

Specific topics Walsh will cover include: basic forces; types of loads generated; awareness, identification, and documentation of as-is conditions; ways to mitigate load effects.
