Pewag Chain Breaks Ground on First U.S. Plant

October 8, 2012—In September, Pewag Chain broke ground on its first U.S. plant in Pueblo, Colo. The plant, which is expected to open by 2014, will eventually span 55,000 sq. ft. and employ 55 workers. In addition to manufacturing tire chain, Pewag executives said the facility will be considered for a significant expansion in manufacturing the company’s heavy lifting chains.

Agyd Pengg, CEO of Pewag, said the factory is key to seizing a larger share of the U.S. tire chain market from Chinese producers. The company anticipates significant sales gains within five years, he said, because the company’s location along I-25 and proximity to nearby steel producers will lower costs and boost marketing.

The city of Pueblo, Pueblo County, and the state of Colorado offered job creation incentives of $1.2 million to the company, according to the Pueblo Chieftain, including $950,000 from the city’s half-cent sales tax fund.
