Steel Erectors Earn Honors for Commitment to Safety and Training

July 21, 2021 - The Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA) recently named recipients of the association’s Safety Excellence Award and Craft Training Recognition Award for 2021.

“These companies demonstrated a strong commitment to the safety and health of their employees,” said Bryan McClure, chairman of SEAA’s Safety and Education Committee.

For both awards, the World Class title represents the highest achievement. Premier is the second level. Gold is the third.

“As this new awards program gains traction, we expect to see greater numbers of applications in 2022,” said McClure. “This is a great way to receive industry-wide recognition for your company,” said McClure.

He added that applying for the awards is easy and uses paperwork that companies already have on file.

Safety Excellence

The Safety Excellence Award goes to nine SEAA members in three categories with excellent 2020 safety records.

Recipients were selected based on evaluations of their EMR ratings, OSHA 300A statistics, and safety program processes over the last three years.

Scoring was based on points assigned to a multi-criteria analysis, conducted in blind review by members of SEAA’s Safety & Education Committee.

World Class (top level)

Derr & Gruenewald Construction LLC — Brighton, Colorado
FM Steel LLC — Gilbert, Arizona
High Plains Steel Services — Windsor, Colorado

Craft Training Recognition

Five companies were recognized for craft training programs.

Applicants were evaluated on the portability of credentials, availability of apprenticeship programs, training, and recruitment.

Evaluations were made in comparison to other companies of similar size, based on the number of ironworkers employed from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2020.

Some employer size categories had no submissions in 2020.
