AEM Construction Education Scholarships Available

November 25, 2008 – The annual scholarship program of ConstructMyFuture.com is now accepting applications. The deadline to apply is Feb. 3, 2009. A total of 10 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded.

The program is open to students and construction industry professionals, with the funds to be used for higher-education tuition or the purchase of tools to improve worker productivity. Details and entry forms are available online at www.constructmyfuture.com.

ConstructMyFuture.com is a joint workforce development initiative of the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation (AEDF), the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

For 2009, ConstructMyFuture.com has increased the number of scholarships offered from three to 10 because of a donation by Kobelco Cranes North America, Houston, Texas.

“We greatly appreciate the generosity of Kobelco,” said Stacy Wessel, brand manager of AEM. “We need skilled workers to meet current and future industry needs, and its support means that more individuals will get a head start on an industry career.” The association administers the website and scholarship program.

ConstructMyFuture.com is designed to promote construction as a rewarding career choice. The interactive site provides information about the construction industry and job opportunities to teenage students as well as teachers, counselors and parents. The website outlines career options available in construction contracting, distribution and equipment manufacturing, with information that includes job descriptions, career path sequences, educational requirements and salary ranges.

The site includes a searchable database of more than 1,000 construction post-secondary schools, organized by state and province as well as information on additional industry scholarship opportunities, apprenticeships and other career-building programs, access to industry job boards, and links to industry organizations and resources.
