June 26, 2008 • The governor and Oklahoma state legislators have honored the national winners of AEM's inaugural Construction Challenge competition designed to spur interest in construction careers, according to the Oklahoma Insider.

The winning team, from Perry, Okla., toured the state capitol recently and was recognized by Gov. Brad Henry and Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, according to the Insider report. The group also attended a luncheon arranged by Perry Mayor Chuck Hall.

AEM plans to hold the Construction Challenge again in 2009 and is currently soliciting sponsors. The association is planning for next year's challenge to be bigger and better, with plans for up to 2,625 plus participants, up from just over 1,000 participants last year.

Sponsorship and team costs have also undergone changes, most notably, is a cost share that requires teams to fundraise a portion of room and board and all of the travel costs. The cost of sponsorship for the 2009 Construction Challenge will be $6,500. This amount covers all but travel and $300, which each team will be required to fundraise.

Preferred sign-up ends July 11; after that, sponsorship opportunities will be open to the rest of the AEM membership.
