APM Terminals Orders 34 Electric RTG Cranes
APM Terminals Elizabeth orders 34 Konecranes electric RTG cranes, with deliveries scheduled through the end of 2028.
August 18, 2026 - APM Terminals Elizabeth has ordered 34 electric rubber-tired gantry (E-RTG) cranes from Konecranes as part of a broader modernization program at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The agreement also includes an option for six additional cranes.
The order was booked in the second quarter of 2026, with deliveries scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. The E-RTGs will be deployed across the terminal yard for container handling operations.
The cranes are fully powered by onboard battery packs. According to the companies, the investment is intended to support yard capacity, operational reliability, and electrified terminal operations as APM Terminals Elizabeth prepares for future growth.

The order is part of APM Terminals Elizabeth's broader modernization program and is intended to prepare the terminal for future operational requirements.

The order is also part of Konecranes' Ecolifting roadmap, which covers technologies intended to support the reduction of tailpipe emissions in port operations. The company's offerings include renewable diesel-powered drives, hybrid and fully electric fleets, and emerging hydrogen options.
