Associated Wire Rope Fabricators Mark 30th Anniversary

November 1, 2006 • Members of the Associated Wire Rope Fabricators (AWRF) marked the organization's 30th anniversary during a general meeting in San Antonio last month. As part of the anniversary celebration, the group recognized the 200th birthday of John Roebling, one of the first manufacturers of wire rope in the United States.

During the meeting, a slate of AWRF officers for 2007 were named. Craig Hayward of Indusco Group, will serve as President; Anne Renfroe of J.C. Renfroe & Sons, Vice President; Teresa McGee of Newell Davis, Secretary; and Alex Edwards of Paducah Rigging Inc., Treasurer.  Gathering before the start of the general meeting, the AWRF Board of Directors confirmed the title of Historian to Don Sayenga. An industry consultant, Sayenga is the Association's first life member.

The Board also voted to donate Association archives to the Colorado School of Mines “to preserve and digitize information that should be shared,” said outgoing president Mike Wallace of Loos & Company Inc. Wallace reported he was also asked by Hayward to start a fund drive for the establishment of an endowment for the School.

AWRF's award for the Most Innovative Safety Program went to Mazzella Lifting Technologies, based in Cleveland, Ohio. In presenting the award, McGee, who serves on the Safety Committee, stated Mazzella takes “its safety commitment to a new level by using remarkable, entertaining methods to capture employees' interest.” Tony Mazzella accepted the award. McGee also named some 65 other companies as recipients of AWRF safety awards. “A record number of companies this year won awards,” she said.

AWRF's next gathering will be April 22-25, 2007, at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, Calif. The meeting will include a tabletop exhibit.
