Teesside-based Tusk Lifting received a special request for a 400-tonne lifting beam to safely handle massive sub-sea cable reels. They turned to Britlift, specialists in beam design and manufacturing, to create the solution.
“Our client needed a beam that could lift cable reels of up to 400t, with offset centres of gravity,” said Julie Montgomery, sales and systems support lead for Tusk Lifting. “We brought Britlift the challenge and they came up with the solution.”
Collaborating closely with Tusk Lifting and its client, Britlift provided a custom box spreader beam with a cradle/stand and a heavy-duty sling adjustor. The technical team specified a more durable paint finish to withstand offshore conditions. As part of their comprehensive service, Britlift also supplied proof of load testing, MPI, and an enhanced quality pack that included an ITP, welding maps with related procedures and qualifications, as well as reports covering structural calculations and the paint specifications.
“We have worked with Britlift many times before and have full confidence in their abilities,” Montgomery added. “The quality pack and documentation they provide is always spot on and their communications at every stage of the job are excellent. This is a very specialized area of lifting and they are experts in it.”
Based in Stockton-on-Tees, Tusk Lifting offers lifting equipment hire, sales, service and inspection from four locations in northern England and Scotland, serving industries such as construction, manufacturing, oil and gas.
