April 28, 2014 - Bigge Crane and Rigging has added two Manitowoc crawlers: the 330-ton MLC300 and the 716-ton MLC650, which feature the Variable Position Counterweight (VPC). The VPC system automatically positions the crane’s counterweight to fit the required lift. The counterweight is automatically positioned along the rotating bed based on changes in boom angle.

Ryan Parker, marketing manager for Bigge, said: “We believe these two crawler cranes might set the new standard with their upgrades to weight balance, line pull and capacity.”

Advantages for customers include reduced ground preparation, lower ground-bearing pressure, and less counterweight without sacrificing capacity. Customers will not have to buy, transport, or install as much counterweight compared with a traditional configuration. The counterweight boxes are also designed to be common across multiple crane platforms.

As soon as the cranes are delivered, they will be used on a range of jobsites, including energy projects and infrastructure applications.
