BKT Tires Produces Technical Document on Under-Inflated Tires

July 13, 2016 - Under-inflated tires on your vehicles can shorten their lift and compromise handling, as well as become a safety hazard to those around the vehicle. Another risk with under-inflated tires, especially steel/steel radials, is they can become zipper tires.

What's a zipper tire? If a tire is run underinflated, which allows repeated over deflection to weaken or break cords, the result can be damage resembling an open zipper. The first instinct may be to add inflation pressure. However, a tire should only
be re-inflated after careful examination determines it is fit for continued service.

BKT Tires has produced a free technical paper that explains zipper tires and other key facts about improperly inflated heavy equipment tires. Download the document here
