Brass Knuckle introduces protective safety glasses with magnification designed for aging workers with presbyopia.

Brass Knuckle has introduced its Read safety glasses, a protective eyewear option designed for workers experiencing presbyopia, the age-related loss of near vision that commonly begins in a person’s 40s. The product is designed to reduce the need for workers to switch between safety glasses and reading glasses while on the job.

According to workforce data cited by the company, the number of American workers over the age of 55 has doubled in the past two decades, and one in five individuals aged 65 remains employed. As workers age, tasks requiring close-up vision — such as reading gauges, setting machinery controls, reviewing manuals or monitoring screens — can become more difficult without magnification.

The Brass Knuckle Read safety glasses are intended to address compliance and safety concerns that arise when workers remove protective eyewear to use readers. The product combines eye protection with built-in magnification, eliminating the need to alternate between different types of eyewear.

The safety glasses feature a polycarbonate frame designed to provide side protection and are offered in five diopter strengths ranging from 1.0 to 3.0. The lenses are ANSI-rated, hard-coated polycarbonate and include BK-Anti-FOG technology, which is permanently bonded to the lens and retains anti-scratch, anti-static and UV protection properties.

The revised ANSI/SEA Z87.1-2015 standard recognizes protective readers as a solution for workers who require magnification while maintaining eye protection. Brass Knuckle Read safety glasses are designed to align with that standard while offering a lighter alternative to over-the-glasses protective eyewear.
