October 26, 2016 - Shuttlelift recently delivered an SB50 gantry crane to Bull Moose Tube Co. in Casa Grande, Ariz. The 50-ton-capacity machine is the first Shuttlelift to incorporate a C hook design to assist with the handling of large steel coils.
Bull Moose Tube was in need of a machine that would improve efficiency and safety in the steel pipe and tube industry. “The No. 1 selling point for a Shuttlelift at our location was the ability to size the wheelbase and lift height to exactly fit our use and available space to maneuver the crane,” said Greg Huff, vice president of technology and continuous improvement.
In addition to working with Bull Moose to create custom machine heights, Shuttlelift designed the 50-ton gantry crane with coil-handling capabilities. This feature has enabled Bull Moose Tube to optimize production and performance.
“The single beam design is a much better solution for single point lifts such as ours unloading large, 25-ton-plus steel coils from rail cars and taking them to storage in our yard,” said Huff. “Add this to the standard use of an operator on the ground using a remote control, and the overall job has become much safer and more efficient for us than a limited/restricted sight-line, cab-operated machine.”
Adaptability and creativity were key for Shuttlelift in developing a solution geared towards improving production, cost, and performance for a customer thriving on unparalleled service.
“When I was qualifying Shuttlelift as a supplier, I was very impressed with their operation, capabilities and customer list. The previous experiences and repetitive use of known design made the choice much easier for us,” said Huff.
