Bulldog Erectors Buys First Manitowoc Model 31000
March 16, 2008 • Manitowoc, Manitowoc, Wis., announced on Thursday that Bulldog Erectors, Newberry, S.C., was the first company to purchase the new 2,535-ton Model 31000 crawler crane. The Model 31000 crane was sold by Shawmut Equipment of Manchester, Conn.
Manitowoc's largest-ever crane was unveiled last Tuesday and features the VPC lift-enhancing mechanism, which eliminates the need for a counterweight wagon. Additionally, the Model 31000 features four trunnion-mounted crawlers, which allow the crane to oscillate during travel and provide even weight distribution during lifts; dual 600-hp Cummins engines for powering multiple operations; and a swing assembly on a roller path system, rather than the typical turntable bearing, to maximize load distribution and decrease ground-bearing pressure.
Bob Shirey, president of Bulldog Erectors, said the decision to add the Model 31000 to its fleet was a step toward aiding company growth. “The 31000 takes us to a part of the business we haven't been before,” Shirey said. “We see a significant demand for heavy-lift projects, including, energy, petro-chemical, nuclear and major infrastructure work.”
