August 26, 2008 • Global corporation J.D. Irving has chosen West Virginia as the location for its first equipment division in the United States. The joint announcement was made by Gov. Joe Manchin and James Irving, chairman and president of J.D. Irving Limited (JDI).
The new division, scheduled to open in October, represents a $20 million initial investment. The JDI equipment division will create 15 new jobs initially and a total of 50 jobs within 12 to 24 months. The new positions include crane operators, mechanics and engineers.
“We see the potential for future endeavors and investment in West Virginia and appreciate the personal interest and effort of the governor in welcoming new business to the state,” said Irving.
JDI has operations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, Newfoundland, Labrador and the United States. The company's business units include forest products, transportation, shipbuilding, retail, industrial equipment and construction services and consumer products.
