CCAA to Seek Accreditation for its Certified Crane Surveyor Test

November 5, 2008 – During its semi-annual meeting held Oct. 26-28, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nev., the Crane Certification Association of America (CCAA) voted to pursue accreditation for its Certified Crane Surveyor test. The test currently covers code requirements for mobile and overhead cranes. Development of a tower crane test is expected to be completed by mid-2009.

According to in-coming president Edward Shapiro of Heavy Equipment Services Co., Niantic, Conn., the CCAA will seek accreditation in 2009 for its test by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). NCCA is an independent non-profit organization set up by the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA) to establish industry guidelines for professional certifying organizations.

 

In other news, the association announced its 2009 officers and board members. Shapiro assumes the position of president. Joining him are Joe Lane of Cairo Marine Service Inc., Wickliffe, Ky., as first vice president and Richard Wehrmeister of Advanced Overhead Crane Services, Crosby, Texas, as second vice president. Other new officers and board members include:

• Immediate Past President: Dennis O’Rourke, National Crane Services
• Treasurer: Gary Lavender, National Crane Inspection
• Secretary: Howard Bristow, Truck & Equipment Specialists
• Directors at Large: Bill Hottenstein, Atlantic Crane Inspection Service and Bill Hough, Crawford Custom Consulting
• Eastern Director: Donald O’Rourke, National Crane Services
• Western Director: Jim Jota, Water Weights

Since May, the association has been actively updating its website at www.ccaaweb.net. The Resource Center now includes a blog, industry links, news room, and training resources. In addition, current service bulletins from manufacturers and links to online manuals have been added to the Publications section.

 

The next meeting of the CCAA will be in Orlando, Fla., tentatively scheduled for April 5-7, 2009.
