CMI Roadbuilding Purchases Terex Waverly Plant
January 11, 2017 - The former Terex Cranes' Waverly facility has a new tenant with a familiar name. CMI Roadbuilding, which manufactures a variety of construction and roadbuilding equipment including the Cedarrapids brand of rock crushers and pavers that were produced originally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is taking over the vacant manufacturing facility and plans to begin manufacturing operations in Iowa by the end of the year.
Terex closed the plant in Waverly in July and moved crane manufacturing to Oklahoma City. About 175 workers were affected by the Waverly plant closing. The Waverly director of community and economic development said CMI will be reaching out to former Terex employees for work.
After Terex Cranes moved to Oklahoma, a 100-employee accounting office stayed in Waverly. Terex has a five-year lease for the accounting offices, according to local news reports, and those employees will stay in that facilty.
