April 2, 2014 - Columbus McKinnon Corp., Amherst, N.Y., introduces CM Smart ID radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as standard equipment on all CM Bandit ratchet lever hoists for the U.S. market. It will also be offered as an option on select CM shackles as small as 1/2 in. With CM Smart ID, uses can track and serialize inventory faster, provide more efficient safety inspections, and improve inventory and inspection data accuracy.
The CM Smart ID RFID option was developed through a partnership with InfoChip. Before the product leaves the factory, each chip with detailed product information is uploaded and stored on the CM Smart ID cloud. It allows for easy access to the information and provides CM the ability to add or update product and service information after the product leaves the factory.
“With InfoChip technology, we ensured our chips were durable and reliable in even the harshest environments and that our pre-associated product information could be easily accessed for free by customers, whether they’re in the office or out in the field,” said Tim Lewis, product manager rigging products and manual hoists.
The initial introduction of CM Smart ID includes the CM Bandit and select CM shackles. The technology is expected to be added to other hoists and rigging tools in the near future.
