ConstructMyFuture.com Selects Scholarship Winners

August 3, 2007 • The ConstructMyFuture.com construction industry careers website has selected the 2007 winners of its annual scholarship program aimed at maintaining a quality industry workforce. Each year the program awards three $1,000 scholarships to be used for construction-focused education.

Students from California, Illinois and Tennessee are the winners of the 2007 ConstructMyFuture.com scholarships. The winners include: Michelle Avant from Salinas High School in Salinas, Calif., who will attend Cal Poly to study construction management; Zachary Dennis from Pawnee High School in Pawnee, Ill., who will attend Iowa State University to study construction engineering; and William Simmons from Obion County Central High School in Troy, Tenn., who will attend Tennessee Technology Center to study welding technology.

The ConstructMyFuture.com scholarship program is open to students and construction industry professionals, with the funds to be used for higher-education tuition or the purchase of tools to improve worker productivity.

The program was initiated in 2001 to help talented individuals focus their skills and enthusiasm on construction careers, for the benefit of their own development as well as the industry. This year's program had a record number of applicants. Judging is based on applicants' essays, school transcripts and personal references.

In addition to scholarships, ConstructMyFuture.com provides students, teachers, counselors and parents with information on the benefits of construction careers, education options available and local business contacts who have volunteered to participate in workforce development activities. The website was developed as a long term commitment to meeting the industry's needs for a highly skilled workforce. The site showcases the technological advances and positive aspects of working in the construction industry and offers convenient access to industry educational opportunities. The website is designed in a teen-friendly interactive format with sections targeting students, parents and educators.

ConstructMyFuture.com is a joint effort of the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation (AEDF), Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and Associated General Contractors of America. (AGC). The three organizations represent thousands of equipment distributors, manufacturers and construction contractors, respectively.
