Feb. 17, 2021 – Carmelo “Carl” S. Marino has passed away at age 77.
He died peacefully on Feb. 12 at his home in Jonesville, South Carolina, with his wife Stacy, friends, and dog Millie by his side.
Long a prominent figure in the crane industry, Marino had been president of S.G. Marino Crane Service, Middletown, Connecticut, a crane-rental business run with his brothers and other family members until it was sold to Barnhart Crane & Rigging in 2008.
The company had been founded in 1952 by Marino’s parents, Sebastian (Mike) and Rose Marino.
Carl Marino treated his team as family, and together they grew the business into one of country’s larger crane-rental companies.
As a young man, Marino spent 12 years as a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, during which he earned many pro-rodeo championships. He finished his rodeo career ranked in the top 25 competitors in the calf roping division.
Marino is survived by his wife Stacy; daughter Darcy Marino of Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico; sons - Brian C. Marino and Jon and Jaye Irwin of Middletown; brothers - Michael Marino of Middletown; Lawrence (Jane) Marino of Portland, Connecticut; Theodore Marino of Middletown; six granddaughters, six great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
The family asks that For those wishing to honor Carl's life pay it forward for those less fortunate.
A celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
