October 8, 2013 - Safety product manufacturer CraneEquipment.ca recently designed the BABE, a remote-controlled sling release for cranes. Typically used to lift trusses and steel structures in residential and commercial construction, the BABE reduces the risk of injury because workers no longer need to climb into dangerous drop-off zones.

The sling release will soon be available in three variations: the BABY BABE is for 5,000-lb. loads, the BABE is for 10,000-lb. loads, and the BIG BABE, which is in development, is for 20-ton loads. All three will meet ASME B30.20 requirements.
The main advantages of the BABE are safety of the solid plate, its lightweight design, and small, cylindrical shape that allows it to pass through many areas. The BABE can be controlled via radio remote up to 1,000 ft. through buildings and metal. The 12V battery provides sufficient power for 200 triggers, and it comes with a charger.
Among its safety features is a mechanism that will prevent accidental trigger and an alarm signal will advise the workers of the imminent load drop.
