Elliott Owners Offered Chance to Avoid OSHA Operator Certification

April 12, 2011 – Elliott Equipment Co., Omaha, Neb., announced a factory winch rerating kit designed to reduce the winch capacity on Elliott HiReach products to 2,000 pounds and therefore eliminate the OSHA requirement for operator certification.

OSHA’s Crane Standard revision announced in late 2010 that owners of material handling equipment with a lifting capacity above 2,000 pounds are required to employ OSHA certified crane operators when performing construction activities.

The new regulation places a new burden on small businesses, sign companies, and many other owners of Elliott lifting equipment.

The new winch rerating kit, installed by Elliott-authorized dealers, includes all necessary components, charts, and tests needed to establish a safe and factory rerated machine.

OSHA crane certifications are expensive and portable, making it difficult for businesses to finance the certification process, retain employees, and hire new employees with operator certifications, notes the manufacturer. Furthermore, many Elliott HiReach owners do not use the full capacity of the winches currently installed on their equipment.

By installing an Elliott rerating kit, HiReach owners can save thousands of dollars over the life of their machines, making it easier to afford necessary maintenance and hire new employees.
