May 18, 2016 - Liebherr has developed a high-strength fiber rope for tower cranes, mobile cranes, and crawler cranes with Austrian rope manufacturer Teufelberger.
According to the Liebherr, it is 80% lighter than steel ropes, which allows an increase in working loads with no change to the gross vehicle weight. The fiber ropes can often be fitted by hand and without auxiliary reeving winches on the crane. Lubrication is no longer required.
Crane operators are able to easily recognize when to discard the rope when the coat of the rope is clearly worn. In addition, the rope properties are monitored and assessed by means of condition monitoring.
