Former Scaffold Industry Association President Passes Away

Harold K. Forbes

September 19, 2006 • Harold K. Forbes, the 15th president of the Scaffold Industry Association, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

Forbes was SIA president from 2000-2002 and led the association through some of its most turbulent times. He spearheaded the SIA's entry into the training arena by co-authoring the successful Suspended Scaffolds Training Program and overseeing the development of the Supported Scaffolds Training Program.
In recognition of his active involvement and promotion of scaffold safety, training and education, the SIA recently renamed the Accredited Training Institute of the Year award after him.

Over the years, he worked with Canada Wire & Cable, Anthes Equipment Umacs, and Aluma Systems. He also served in the Canadian Armed Forces Militia Unit before retiring for 33 years before retiring as commanding officer in 1973.

Harold will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Florence whom after meeting as teenage sweethearts, shared 55 years of marriage.
