May 25, 2011—Giuffre Brothers Cranes, Inc., Milwaukee, Wis., has been named the official recovery vehicle provider for the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Giuffre Brothers developed and fabricated a special crane and flat bed that will be used to lift, recover and clear disabled race cars from the track. The new Safety Recovery Vehicle (SRV), is a Giuffre/Fassi hydraulic crane mounted on a Ford F750 chassis with a 20-foot flat bed complete with special vehicle safety tie downs and emergency alert lighting.

“As longtime supporters of and partners with the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway, my brother Frank and I are committed to helping make the race environment safer for the drivers and the fans,” said Dominic Giuffre, president of Giuffre Brothers Cranes, Inc.

The recovery vehicle will provide safer recovery of racecars while avoiding spilling vehicle fluids on the race track, a safer environment for the safety crews and less damage to the disabled vehicle.

The famed Indianapolis 500 racing event will be celebrating its 100th running when it starts at 12:00 p.m./ET on Sunday, May 29. The event draws an estimated 400,000 fans.
