Grove Crane Rescues Trapped New York Miners
January 7, 2016 – A Grove all-terrain crane was brought in to rescue 17 miners trapped in an elevator shaft 800 ft. below ground at a salt mine in Lansing, N.Y. The previous crew had just come up after finishing their shift when the elevator, taking this group down, apparently malfunctioned.
After nearly 10 hours, an all-terrain crane equipped with a personnel basket, began bringing up four men at a time, according to news reports. Mine officials said they plan to re-evaluate a safety plan and won't resume regular operations until it is deemed safe.
