In Memory of Steve Brown, Founding Partner of SE10 Creative

Steve Brown (1966-2006)
March 22, 2006 • On March 16, Steve Brown, one of the directors and founding partners of SE10 Creative, died at the age of 39. Having fought a long battle with cancer after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in early 2004, Steve will be best remembered for his passion for the construction equipment business and his desire to provide the very best service to both clients and journalists alike.

Throughout his career Steve remained a journalist at heart, and his fine writing style and sharp sense of humor made him popular in both journalistic and industry circles. He spent more than 10 years in the construction equipment press starting as an assistant editor on Cranes Today, a United Kingdom trade journal published by Wilmington Media. From there he moved to Executive Hire News, eventually becoming editor, before heading to the United States at the end of 1997 to satisfy his long-held ambition to live and work in North America. There he joined Cygnus Business Media's Equipment Today where he enjoyed two and a half years of service -- and where he also met Mary Schmid, who would later become his wife.

In 2000, he returned to the UK as editor of D&Ri, one of KHL Group's construction titles, and was based at the company's East Sussex headquarters. This was only a brief visit. By 2001, he had returned to the U.S. to open KHL's first North American office. During this second spell in North America, he married Mary, and settled in Milwaukee.

The year 2002 saw Steve take his next step in the industry and realize a long-term goal to establish his own public relations and marketing consultancy. Toward the end of 2002, SE10 Creative was formed and today it is the success Steve always hoped it would be. The company has offices in the U.K. and U.S. and represents leading manufacturers, including Manitowoc Crane Group, Volvo Construction Equipment, Metso Minerals, and Sandvik Tamrock.

Brown is survived by his wife, Mary, and their three-year-old son Ray. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's name may be made to either:
