Industry Associations Call for New Stimulus Package
November 13, 2008 – With a 7.9 percent decline in non-residential investments and investments in equipment software down 5.5 percent, the American Rental Association, Associated Equipment Distributors, Association of Equipment Manufacturers, and the North American Equipment Dealers Association are jointly urging the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives for more aid.
The associations are asking Congress to pass a job creation and economic recovery package that includes increases in federal infrastructure spending and extends the capital investment incentives in the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 for two years.
“The time to act is now to prevent further deterioration within the construction equipment industry,†said Christine Wehrman, ARA executive vice president and CEO. “This action is imperative to the future of an industry that affects so many jobs across America.â€
She notes that John McClelland, ARA’s vice president for government affairs, is working closely with political leaders in Washington to keep this legislation moving forward.
