Industry Veteran Scott Barclay Dies

September 19, 2007 • Industry veteran Scott Barclay died Sept. 17 at his home in Hendersonville, N.C., of complications from diabetes. He was 51.

Barclay had been involved in the crane industry for about 25 years, when he got his start working in his father's shops at Davis Machinery, where his father was an engineer. Barclay went on to work for several aerial and crane rental companies, including Equipment Supply Company and Modern High Lift, according to his sister, Tracy Dougherty. He spent 11 years at National Crane as a district sales manager for hydraulic truck-mounted cranes, covering the Northeast sales territory. Barclay then worked for Fascan International for several years as a district manager.

Barclay had extensive knowledge of the industry and its products, as well as equipment experience with many brands of machinery, including JLG, Grove, Manitou and Genie.

Bryan Dammann, sales manager of boom trucks for Tadano America, met Barclay in the early 80s when he was a district sales manager. “He was a good salesman,“ Dammann said. “He had a great humor and personality.”

Barclay is survived by a son, Andrew Barclay, Gettysburg, Pa.
