JLG to Lay Off Workers in Pennsylvania

July 16, 2008 • JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, Pa., announces it is cutting back its workforce in McConnellsburg, Shippensburg, and Bedford due to a slowdown in the construction market, according to the Public Opinion. The newspaper reported that the company is not releasing the number of employees that will be laid off, but the downsizing will affect administrative and production positions.

Kirsten Skyba, JLG's vice president of global marketing, said the layoffs will occur between the beginning of August and the end of September and will be combined with intermittent plant shutdowns.

"It's really in response to a very challenging market and economic conditions affecting both our European and North American market," she told the Public Opinion. "The North American housing recession certainly had an impact, and the non-residential market has softened as well. It's really an effort to ensure the company remains viable in a soft market.”
