Konecranes has received a $51.2 million order from the U.S. Navy for a heavy-lift portal jib crane that will be delivered to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.

The order, booked in May 2026, marks Konecranes’ seventh portal jib crane order from the U.S. Navy and completes an agreement originally announced in December 2019.

According to the company, the 175-ton portal jib crane will be manufactured in Wisconsin before being installed at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The crane features a customized design that allows operation on both straight and curved tracks, supporting shipyard requirements.

Konecranes said the crane is similar to previously ordered models and includes a modular jib configuration designed to allow future modifications if needed. The company noted that the crane could be adapted to different gage sizes if relocated to another shipyard in the future.

The crane design may also be applicable for use in other naval shipyards globally with similar track configurations.

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard installation represents the latest delivery under the multi-order agreement between Konecranes and the U.S. Navy, continuing the company’s supply of heavy-lift equipment for naval shipyard operations.
