Konecranes Sets 2050 Emissions Reduction Target

September 24, 2026 - Konecranes has established a long-term climate ambition to reduce its absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 90% by 2050, using 2019 as the base year.

The new target builds on the company's near-term, science-based targets for 2030. Konecranes aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions 60% and Scope 3 emissions 50% by 2030 compared with 2019 levels. The Scope 3 target includes emissions associated with purchased goods and services and the use of sold products. The targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Konecranes said its 2050 ambition follows the same absolute GHG emissions reduction level defined by the SBTi Net-Zero Standard and aligns with a pathway to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius under the Paris Agreement.

“We reached our original 2030 target of halving Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions already in 2022. Last year, we raised the target level for 2030 and focus now on achieving it. This year we reached another milestone by completing the electrification of all product lines. Emissions Reduction Strategy

Konecranes said it will continue working to reduce emissions from its operations and value chain to reach the 2050 target. The company identified low-emission equipment, including electric equipment, as a primary way it can help customers reduce emissions from their operations.

The company also plans to increase the use of lower-emission materials and circular solutions in its products and continue reducing emissions from its own operations.

Konecranes said reaching the long-term target will also depend on changes outside the company, including lower-emission steel production and transportation, cleaner energy systems, and reductions in emissions from customer industries.

Long-Term Climate Target

Konecranes said it previously planned to establish an SBTi-validated long-term net-zero target. Following the launch of SBTi's Net-Zero Standard 2.0, the company decided not to seek SBTi validation for its long-term climate target.

According to Konecranes, the decision reflects the standard's increased emphasis on neutralizing residual emissions and uncertainty about its future implementation and development. The company's 2050 ambition follows the standard's requirements for absolute GHG emissions reductions but does not include neutralization of residual emissions.

Konecranes' near-term science-based targets, which were upgraded and revalidated by SBTi in 2025, remain unchanged.
