Liebherr has had a new addition to the telescopic crawler crane range: the LTR 1150. The third generation of the LICCON control system, alongside a contemporary crane design and a plethora of innovations, forms the visual and technical highlights of the machine. Additionally, the LTM 1110-5.2 introduces a novel feature: the 10 machines in its pre-series are now being monitored daily by our test department using telemetry, marking a first in the history of this crane type. This proactive monitoring enables swift and targeted responses to any potential issues.
Designing and configuring Liebherr’s high-tech cranes necessitates considering extreme temperatures, as they can result in operational difficulties or erroneous error messages. To address this, they are monitoring an LTM 1110-5.2 in Sicily, where it operates in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius during summer, while its counterpart navigates through the fjord landscapes of Norway, where it faces icy conditions. Observations are conducted both on-site and from their facility in Ehingen.
The new crane thrives in any weather condition and terrain. Patrik Braig, a seasoned professional, operates the crawler crane with ease and familiarity. With nearly two decades of experience at Liebherr in Ehingen, Braig specializes in telescopic crawler cranes within the crane acceptance department. He possesses in-depth knowledge of their applications, advantages, and the evolution of the Liebherr crane series. Expressing enthusiasm for the latest addition, he notes, "I have often heard from crane operators that the LTR 1100 is a little too weak for many applications, while the LTR 1220 is too large and oversized. Until now, the market has lacked a good telescopic crawler crane in the 150-tonne class."
Transporting the new LTR 1150 is a feat of power and finesse. Positioned between the LTR 1100 and the LTR 1220, it boasts a maximum load capacity of 150 metric tons, offering approximately 50% more lifting capacity than the LTR 1100 while remaining just as transportable and cost-effective. Patrik explains, "We transport the LTR 1150 complete with crawler carriers weighing 60 metric tons and measuring just 3.5 meters wide, or optionally without crawler carriers, weighing only 38 metric tons. This versatility is a unique selling point and a significant advantage." For smaller transport requirements, the crane can be quickly dismantled, facilitated by a new automatic support system that simplifies and enhances safety during the process. Following dismantling, the two crawler carriers, each weighing 11 metric tons, can be transported together on a standard semi-trailer measuring 2.55 meters wide, while the basic machine weighs 38 metric tons and spans 3.0 meters in width.
