Liebherr has introduced the LTM 1090-4.3, a 90-tonne mobile crane equipped with the new LICCON3 control system. The 4-axle all-terrain crane succeeds the LTM 1090-4.2 and was presented at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas.

The updated model features the new LICCON3 control generation and Liebherr’s revised crane design. According to the company, lifting capacity on the 60 metre telescopic boom has been further increased, particularly when extended and in a steep position, supporting applications such as tower crane assembly.

LICCON3 Control System

With the third generation of the LICCON control system (Liebherr Computed Control), Liebherr has introduced new software and programming language, a faster data bus, increased memory and higher computer performance. The familiar operating concept remains, allowing operators to transition to the new system without significant changes in operation.

The crane retains proven hardware components including the mobile operating and display unit BTT. A larger touchscreen display in the superstructure cab provides revised and simplified information layouts. LICCON3 cranes are also prepared for telemetry and fleet management, allowing contractors to view and evaluate data through the MyLiebherr customer portal.

Cab Updates and Operator Features

Liebherr has introduced a new driver’s cab alongside the LICCON3 system. Updates include a multifunction steering wheel, revised displays and control modules and optional features such as central locking with remote key and a “Coming and Leaving Home” function.

Both the driver’s cab and crane operator’s cab include a new automatic heating and air-conditioning system with a sun sensor that adjusts settings based on sunlight. LED lighting packages have been optimized for the crane cab, superstructure, vehicle rear, front headlights, telescopic boom and lattice fly jib.

Mobility and Performance

The LTM 1090-4.3 maintains the four-axle configuration and can be operated with 10 tonne, 12 tonne and 16 tonne axle loads. Switching between driving modes is supported by a standard quick-change ballast system.

With a 12 tonne axle load, the crane can carry up to 8.8 tonnes of counterweight. The 60 metre telescopic boom remains, with increased performance when extended and in steep positions.

The crane includes ECOdrive and ECOmode to support reduced fuel consumption and noise emissions. VarioBallast adjustable ballast radius and VarioBase variable support base are standard features. The DynamicPerform clutch module of the ZF TraXon transmission enables starting and maneuvering without overheating by transmitting engine power via an oil-cooled plate pack.

Assistance and Remote Operation

The LTM 1090-4.3 includes driver assistance systems such as the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) and the Moving Off Information System (MOIS). The crane is prepared for RemoteDrive, allowing it to be moved by radio remote control from outside the cab.

Additional options include a central lubrication system for the undercarriage and a digital tyre pressure indicator.

Liebherr continues to convert existing crane types to the LICCON3 control system, incrementing the final digit of the model designation to reflect the upgrade.
