Liebherr Increases LG 1750 Load Capacity and Height Under Hook

April 26, 2012—In 2004, Liebherr brought the 750-ton (826.7 U.S. tons) LG 1750 to market. From the start, the erection of wind power installations was a key area of operations for the crane, but the weights of the systems and the installation heights have been steadily increasing since then. Liebherr is keeping pace with this trend with the development of longer and stronger boom systems.
With a new and even more powerful boom system, designated the SL12D2FB, the LG 1750 is now in a position to erect the new large types of wind power systems at tower heights from 459 to 492 feet. The new system is derived from the SL9D2FB boom, a main boom with a fixed jib and derrick system. Through the use of three strong 39-foot lattice sections with a width of 11.5 feet instead of 10 feet in the lower area of the main boom and the extension of the fixed jib, both the lifting capacity and the height under hook have been boosted on the new SL12 system. The LG 1750 can now achieve lifts of 141 tonnes (155.4 tons) at a height under hook of 469.1 feet and 97 tonnes (107 tons) at 525 feet.
A lattice boom mobile crane has some major advantages in the installation of wind power systems, providing high load capacities while at the same time being highly mobile on the construction site, with a chassis width of only 10 feet. The LG 1750 is also extremely flexible, both with regard to the different installation sizes as well as for operations outside the wind power sector. The basic machine of the LG 1750 can also be driven on public roads, which adds to the economy of transport of the crane.
