Liebherr USA Event Highlights Expanded Plant, Five Cranes New to North America

May 17, 2022 – Liebherr USA Co. recently hosted visitors from across the globe at the first Customer Day held at its expanded plant in Newport News, Virginia.

Held May 12, the event showed Liebherr’s guests the extensively expanded facility and capabilities of its North American headquarters.

The event also rolled out the company’s newest North American equipment offerings, including five cranes not previously seen on this continent: the LTM 1110-5.2 all-terrain crane, LTM 1300-6.3 all-terrain crane, LR 1700 crawler crane, LR 1400 SX crawler crane, and the electrically powered LR 1250.1 unplugged crawler crane.

Other equipment unveiled to the North American market at the event included an articulated dump truck, a piling & drilling rig, a truck-mounted concrete pump, a line pump, and a dozer.

Liebherr’s Newport News plant supports and distributes 10 diverse classes of equipment: earthmoving, material handling, deep foundation machines, tower cranes, mining, mobile and crawler cranes, maritime cranes, concrete technology, components, and refrigerators and freezers.

Customer Day also provided the opportunity to reveal the $60 million enhancement to the facilities, which Liebherr USA formally moved into in April 2020.

The campus now includes a 60,000-ft2 administrative building, an 82,000-ft2 workshop and training facility, a 92,000-ft2 parts distribution warehouse that includes retail operations, a one-story 7,500-ft2 wash bay building, and a guard house.

The new campus helps Liebherr serve customers across various product segments.

It significantly increases production operations for concrete pumps and repair capacity for mobile cranes, crawler cranes, and construction equipment.

The new shop is also equipped to handle the growing numbers of Liebherr earthmoving equipment.

“The investment in our new Liebherr USA headquarters and facilities represents our strong commitment to the U.S. market. The new state-of-the-art repair and training facilities as well as the new central warehouse are, in terms of size and technical standards, advanced, and comply with current and future requirements of our customers, covering all ten product segments. This in combination with our highly qualified and motivated workforce perfectly serves and supports our customers in the USA,” said co-Managing Director Kai Friedrich.

Event for Customers, Partners, and Families

The event featured facility tours and product presentations, including a live application show of various new machines and more than 30 exhibits throughout the facility and grounds.

In addition, product experts explained special features of the new machines and gave insights on using all Liebherr machines.

The customer day was the first of three events taking place from May 12-14. The next day, Liebherr hosted a Recruiter and Counselor Open House to help with the company’s workforce development. And on the 14th, the facility hosted Family Day.

“After two years of anticipation, we are honored to present our newly expanded facilities and products on such a momentous day,” said co-Managing Director Dr. Tim Gerhardt. “This opportunity allows us to showcase Liebherr’s growth and dedication to our US partners and customers.”
