Nov. 14, 2023 – Liebherr’s new LTR 1150 telescopic-boom crawler crane delivers 170-U.S.-ton (USt) maximum capacity, 171’ of main boom, 272’ of tip height with a jib, and a 249’ maximum radius with a jib.
The new model is the fifth in Liebherr’s teleboom crawler family, whose other models range in capacity from 50 to 250 USt.
The new LTR 1150 offers 60 USt more capacity than the 110-USt LTR 1100 while maintaining similar transportability.
The LTR 1150 is also the first Liebherr teleboom crawler crane with VarioBase, which enables the crawlers to be positioned independently at different distances from the crane’s centerline.
Compact, Strong, Easy to Transport
The real highlight of the new LTR 1150, says Liebherr, is its economical transportation.
The company says that no other telescopic-boom crawler crane in this capacity class can be transported on a lowboy trailer complete with crawlers at just 11’6” wide.
In addition, the LTR 1150 in that configuration weighs just 132,300 lbs.
For that reason, Liebherr has coined the slogan "Compact and strong, transport in one" for the new crane.
With its crawlers removed, the LTR 1150 can be trucked at just 9’10” wide and 83,800 lbs.
That configuration requires a jack-up erection support whose four swiveling cylinders support the crane while the tracks are removed, and the lowboy trailer is positioned under the crane.
The LTR 1150’s jack-up system is similar to the one proven on Liebherr’s 110-USt LTR 1100, but is automatic for even faster and easier operation.
Each crawler weighs 24,250 lbs., complete with track pads, and both crawlers can be transported side by side on a standard trailer with total width of 8’4.5” and length of 24’.
Likewise, the counterweights are designed to optimize transportation efficiency.
The full counterweight can be installed or removed in just four lifts: one lift for each of the 24,250-lb. central ballast boxes that mount onto the carbody; one for a section of upperworks ballast that weighs 46,300 lbs.; and one for a section of upperworks ballast that weighs 44,100 lbs.
As is typical on Liebherr LTM cranes, the LTR 1150 handles its own ballast, and the upperworks ballasts are attached to the slewing platform using a hydraulic ballasting device that the crane operator controls from inside the cab.
First Telescopic-Boom Crawler Crane with VarioBase
Liebherr’s VarioBase variable-width crawler stance provides greater safety for telescopic mobile cranes while also allowing significantly higher lifting capacities, especially directly over the supports.
The LTR 1150 is the first telescopic-boom crawler crane equipped with this system, which determines the optimum load capacity in real time depending on the overall track stance and upperworks slewing angle.
The greatest advantages in lifting capacity come when performing lifting over the corners of the tracks, especially with less-than-maximum track stances.
The maximum overall track stance is 19’, with narrower stances of 16’5” and 11’6” possible.
Like all Liebherr LTR cranes, the LTR 1150 has capacity charts for lifting on slopes of 0.3°, 0.7°, 1.5°, 2.5°, and 4°.
The LTR 1150 is the first Liebherr telescopic-boom crawler crane with WindSpeed Load Charts," which make it possible to work safely and flexibly at wind speeds up to 34.9 mph – even with full lifting capacity in many boom positions.
Ideal for Construction and Wind Farm Work
The LTR 1150’s high performance and excellent pick-and-carry capacities make it ideal for auxiliary tasks in the assembly of wind turbines.
It can assemble crawler cranes up to the 1,100-USt class and can move components weighing over 66 USt, such as wind-turbine nacelles and hubs.
As well as unloading those parts from transport vehicles, the LTR 1150 can also carry them on a construction site without any load restrictions.
That feature makes telescopic crawler cranes extremely appealing on sites where lifts must be made in different places, for example in construction of industrial buildings.
With the short, powerful erection jib and the additional hoist gear, the LTR 1150 can move loads of up to 38 USt.
The range of working equipment for the 171’ telescopic boom also includes a hydraulically adjustable double folding jib and telescopic boom extensions that allow hoisting heights of up to 272’.
Liebherr currently plans to begin delivering the new LTR 1150 to North America near the end of next year (2024).
