Lift-It's two-day safety conference brought in more than 100 attendees.
April 30, 2008 • The Sling Safety Conference hosted by Lift-It Manufacturing, Los Angeles, Calif., brought together 105 participants from many diverse industries and geographic locations. The two-day conference, held April 22-23, covered topics such as basic and advanced rigging and sling inspection.

The synthetic sling safety program was presented by Mike Gelskey, president, Lift-It Manufacturing. Mark Langford of Capital Safety presented a session on fall prevention and gave product demonstrations. A tour of the Lift-It production facility, with fabrication and testing demonstrations, was also featured on the first day.

Day two featured a sling inspection program, which included hands-on inspection and recordkeeping exercises. Harley Gist, Construction Rigging Consultants, presented a hands-on rigging demonstration. Participants determined load weights, centers of gravity and witnessed the effects of sling angles and stress as variable sling lengths were used to lift loads.

Gelskey has educated thousands of sling users and inspectors over the last 27 years. "We were particularly impressed by the interaction and participation of the attendees,” he said. “I was also very grateful for the many kind words from many of the participants during the shop tour.”

The next presentation of the Sling Safety Program is scheduled for Oct. 14-15, with a Train the Trainer Program on Oct. 16-17. Early registrations are encouraged. The class size is purposely limited for maximum benefit and participation. The specific details are available at www.Lift-it.com or by contacting the conference coordinator, Michelle Brown at (323) 582-6076, ext. 715.
