January 29, 2009 – Luffer and all SAE conventional capacity tests on Link-Belt’s 550-ton 548 lattice-boom crawler crane are complete. Currently, machines on the test pads at Hitachi Sumitomo’s facility in Saijo, Japan, are completing function testing and load moment calibration and verification. Shipments into North America are planned for the second quarter of 2009.

Introduced at ConExpo last March, the 548’s preliminary specifications place the heavy-duty boom at 79 to 275 feet and the long-range boom at 138 to 354 feet. Complete luffer specifications will be announced soon. Future testing will involve a heavy-lift attachment.

Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company, Lexington, Ky., is a leader in the design and manufacture of telescopic boom and lattice-boom cranes for the construction industry worldwide.
