Link-Belt to Expand Production Capabilities

June 4, 2007 • Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company broke ground today on a 90,000 square-foot expansion to its manufacturing facility in Lexington, Ky. The expansion includes an additional telescopic crane assembly line and a dedicated boom component shot blast and painting facility. Representing a capital investment of more than $24 million, the expansion will create 120 new jobs.

“Over the last several years we have made great strides in our journey from Lean Manufacturing to our Link-Belt Production System. We have systematically put in place a timeline of actions that have improved our efficiencies and have resulted in an increased overall production capacity,” said Chuck Martz, president and CEO of Link-Belt. “These additions in conjunction with our ongoing Lean efforts and an improving vendor supply environment will position us to better serve our customer needs,” he said. The Link-Belt Production System is the company's customized approach to Lean Manufacturing principles.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Link-Belt for tax benefits up to $2.4 million under the Kentucky Industrial Development Act, an incentive program designed to attract and expand manufacturing operation in the state.
